Here's my 3 year old practicing French. Enjoy!

Who is LanguageMom?

My name is Kristin and I am a Mom of two very active boys aged 3 and 5. Like many Moms, I want my kids to learn how to speak other languages because I know how valuable and enriching this can be. I studied French in school and have family who live in France, so I am working on teaching them French. Every day I am amazed at how much they are learning and retaining.

As soon as the first one was born, I started buying the French story books, French music CDs, "Teach your kids French" books, full blown DVD programs, iphone apps, and more! I spent at least $200 on all these tools. But they just weren't working for me. In early 2011, I realized that I needed a much more structured way to teach my kids French.

I researched how to teach kids a second language and started working on a program that would be simple and would fit into my busy schedule. I quickly realized that this program could help other parents like me.

What's included in the LanguageMom Introductory French for Kids program?

This is a 6 month program (26 weeks) that will teach your child basic French. Each week, you will receive an email with your lesson plan and lesson tools(study sheet, video, and more). The program is broken up into 4 sections of 5-6 lessons. At the end of each section, there is a review lesson which includes a short french story e-book using many of the words learned up to that point. And when you sign up for this program, you become a LanguageMom member and will have access to the member site, member forum, and additional resources.

By the end of this program, your child will have covered:

  • Numbers
  • Colors
  • Animals
  • Parts of the body
  • Mealtimes
  • Feelings
  • Family
  • Morning time and bedtime
  • Clothing
  • Sports
  • School
  • ...and many more topics...

Here's what you will receive when you sign up for this program

  • Weekly lesson study sheets and lesson plan
  • Weekly lesson video that will teach you and your child how to pronounce the words and phrases featured in the weekly lesson. Videos are narrated by a native French speaker from France.
  • Activity ideas for practicing
  • Reward Charts to help you and your child stay on track and motivated.
  • Short stories, songs and/or games that feature the words and phrases featured in the lessons.
  • Access to the member forum and helpful resources.

**Please note, this program is delivered exclusively online. No hard materials will be mailed to you. Please ensure you have an Internet connection and access to a printer for this program**

What's special about this program?

There are lots of tools out there that try to teach kids French, but most are missing 3 key elements: personal interaction, consistency and progression - and these are critical!

Personal interaction - Studies have shown that personal interaction is a key component for a young child to learn a new language. Watching a French language video or listening to a French song may help children with pronunciation but it is not an effective way for a child to actually absorb and learn the language.

And studies have also shown that this personal interaction does NOT need to be with a native speaker; a parent, whether that parent has some knowledge of the language or not, can do a great job introducing his child to a second language.

Consistency - Have you put in a French language DVD a couple of times and then forgot about it for a couple of months? Did you try the flash cards for a week and then get busy? Consistency over time is a requirement if you want your child to learn a new language. If your child doesn't have regular opportunities to practice and listen to a language, she will forget it. Because you receive a new lesson each week, you are continually reminded to keep practicing French with your child. And you have a defined lesson to focus on during that week.

Progression - With many of the language tools out there, there are no milestones or points of accomplishment. With this program, I have four distinct sections with a review session at the end of each with a e-story that integrates many of the words learned in previous sessions. This gives kids a sense of accomplishment. Each lesson tries to include elements from previous lessons thus reinforcing your child's learning. Additionally, the reward charts gives you and your child a way to track your progress.

Here's what some of our members are saying:

"We have lots of french learning material around us. We have dvds, books, magazines, but consistency was our problem, even for this mama who can speak perfect french. This is where your program was wonderful for us and I do recommend it to families who want to teach their kids french. Your weekly lessons are nice short and easy to follow even for non french speaking families. If you do each lesson weekly and remember to keep reviewing the previous lessons, your kids will learn. Thank you Kristin for your beautiful work." - Viv (Gambia)

"We are having a ball with the site and teaching my girls. I printed out the story and I have been reading it to the girls. I have also been printing out the sheets, laminating them and sticking them up around the bath tub. Each night when the girls have their bath we practice our french. I also was able to understand the french version of the book without watching the english one first!" - Kimberley (Australia)

Why should you teach your kids French?

Numerous studies have found that there are many benefits for kids in learning a second language; increased self confidence and language skills, enhanced creativity and flexibility, increased interest in and open-mindedness towards other countries and cultures. Plus, it's an amazing way to share something special with your child. I truly enjoy my "French time" with my kids.

How much time will this take?

This program is designed for busy parents. It only requires 5-10 minutes 4-6 days a week. Of course, if you have more time, we have links to youtube videos, songs etc. that work as excellent supplements to the program. I like to practice French duirng breakfast, or waiting for the bus or before story time. Depending on the topic for the week, you can adapt when you have "French time". And if you miss a few days or even weeks, you can still pick up and keep going by using the review sessions to catch up on lessons that didn't get enough practice. All tools will be available to you for several years after you complete the program.

Why this program versus my other options?

There are several ways for your child to try to learn French, but each has its own disadvantages or challenges...

French Books, CDs, DVDs, Flash cards

While it is much easier to put your kids in front of a French DVD language program, it isn't the best method if you really want your child to learn the language. These videos become boring for the child (and for the parent). These tools tend to be overwhelming for you and your child. More often than not, you will look at them once or twice and then they will collect dust. I know that was my experience.

After school language program

These programs are great in that your child will be interacting with an actual French speaker and meet on a regular basis. However, these programs are expensive ($150-$200 for one semester per child), likely only meets once a week, and may not be available in your neighborhood. These classes also can't adapt to how your child learn's best and give your child one-one attention - parents are best suited to do this!

The LanguageMom program

The LanguageMom program is both affordable and manageable. In only 5-10 minutes a day, your 3-7 year old child can learn more French than if they attended an after school program once a week - and for a fraction of the cost.

A parent or caregiver is an ideal person to teach a child a second language. A child trusts her parent and the parent understands how best to teach her child.

Why LanguageMom?

You may be wondering why I believe I have a created an effective program? I could go on and on about how I spent a lot of time researching the best way to teach young children a second language and how I consulted with several early learning teachers, but truly the best proof that this program is effective is that it is working with my 3 and 5 year olds. They remember the words that they learned in previous lessons. They recognize words in French songs and will spontaneously come up with a French word for something they see. They will request that I read them a French book at bedtime. And as time goes on, they enjoy "French time" more and more.

I am very confident that this program is an excellent way to introduce your child to French.

I am so confident that you will love this program that I am offering a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Is this program for you?

If you want your child to learn French without your participation, this program is not for you and I would recommend a local classroom program or French tutor.

  • If you think it would be fun and/or rewarding to teach your child French and learn it yourself (or brush up on it if you already have some knowledge of the language), this program is for you.
  • If you can spend 5 minutes a day to practice French with your kids, this program is for you.
  • If you believe learning a second language is valuable, this program is for you.

Program Cost

This program can deliver similar results to an after-school introductory language program that costs $200-$300 for the school year. However, I will be offering this program for only $14.95.
